Cheyenne Rifle and Pistol Club Range
Rules General Rules 1. A member is an individual person–not a family, organization or group. 2. Anyone shooting or handling a firearm in a dangerous or haphazard manner will be subject to immediate expulsion from the club. 3. Consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or the use of illegal drugs while on the club premises is strictly prohibited. Anyone who is or may be impaired by prescription drugs or for any other reason should not handle firearms. 4. All members and guests are required to observe all posted range safety signs. 5. The member is permitted to have only one non-family guest at the range. The member is permitted to take immediate family THAT RESIDE IN THE SAME HOUSEHOLD in addition to the one non-family guest. The member must be present and with the family member(s) or guest and is responsible for them to abide by the range safety rules whether they are shooting or not. This is not a family membership and as such it is a violation of this policy to lend access to the range(s) without the member present. A member may have more than one guest, PROVIDED they have contacted a board member and have been given permission to do so for that occasion ONLY. 6. Matches that take place at the range(s) will be at the permission of the Board and all safety rules will apply and be monitored by the sponsor of the match. 7. When a member is finished shooting, that person will police their range area for brass and trash and discard in appropriate receptacles in order to maintain a clean range environment. 8. No armor piercing or tracer ammunition is permitted on any range(s). 9. Eye and ear protection must be worn by all persons at all times when he range is HOT. What do you do if you see a violation? Let it go and risk losing our facility because of a neighbor complaint or a lawsuit? The Board urges you to report violations. Do not confront the individual yourself. If possible, please get their name or license number from the vehicle, date and time. Document the facts. Contact the Board promptly. The board will then be able to follow up and handle the situation appropriately. Indoor Range 1. All individuals, members or guests are required to sign in with the range officer. 2. All activity at the range will be monitored by the range officer. The range officer has the authority to arbitrate any situation for the range and to make a ruling. All persons are required to abide by that ruling. If the member disagrees with the ruling, they may take the matter to the board later for review. 3. This indoor range has a limited backstop. For safety, a restriction has been established for the type of weapon/ammunition fired at this range. a. Only handgun and .22 rifles will be fired. b. Maximum velocity fired is 1000 fps. c. Generally, no magnum ammunition allowed. d. Non-magnum rounds factory loaded to over 1000 fps are not allowed. A data sheet showing factory loaded velocity is in the back of the sign up notebook. e. The Range Officer may question the ammunition being used and may ask the member to cease using it as it is unsuitable for this range. 4. All firearms are to remain cased until the Range Officer declares the line open for their removal or the line is HOT. 5. The Range Officer will issue all range commands, when to handle firearms, cease fire, make the line safe etc. It is imperative the shooter follows these commands. 6. No individual may handle any firearm unless the range has been declared HOT. 7. All shooting will be from the marked stations at the 50 foot line and all muzzles must be in front of this line when shooting. 8. Only one target will be hung per station on the mount provided. No cross lane shooting is allowed. 9. You must immediately unload and place your firearm on the stand with action open when Cease Fire is declared. 10. The Range Officer must declare the line SAFE before anyone is allowed go down range. 11. Anyone observing an unsafe situation shall call an immediate cease fire. It is your responsibility to abide by this declaration immediately. 12. The Range Officer will inspect the firearm to determine it is unloaded prior to the individual leaving the range area. A shooter carrying concealed, shall request from the Range Officer permission to un-holster upon arrival and re-holster upon leaving the range at the firing line. 13. Children under the age of 10 years old are not allowed into the range. Any children under the age of 15 may wait in the ready room if accompanied by an adult. Children between 10-14 years old may use the range if they are accompanied by a non-shooting adult who is providing supervision/coaching at all times. 14. The Range Officer will require any shooter to leave the premises if: a. The shooter fails to obey a range command b. The shooter is handling a firearm in an unsafe manner. c. The shooter is causing damage to the building or equipment. d. The shooter is disruptive to other shooters or the Range Officer. e. Any other circumstance the Range Officer believes is unsafe. 15. While the range is HOT the range doors [red doors] shall not be opened. Outdoor Range 1. You must lock the gate either entering or departing the premises. 2. Shooting is permitted only during daylight hours. 3. No shooting of any animals allowed. 4. Shooting is only allowed at the specified ranges in the appropriate direction and bullet impact will be on the approved backstop. 5. No driving on other than approved roads. Non-shooting recreational activities are prohibited without board approval. 6. This range is not a place for trash. If you haul it in, haul it out. 7. Use the correct range for the type of shooting you are doing. Follow the posted rules. 8. The adult member bringing a guest or family member(s) is responsible for their actions. All guests and family member(s) must follow all safety rules. The member must accompany them at all times. Any member not accompanying guests or family members will be subject to immediate expulsion from the club. 9. Before using the range and commencing shooting all shooters must: a. Verify that the range is safe b. Verify that no one is down range. c. Determine the proper target for the range d. Verify that bullet impact will be in the designated back stop. a. Declare a Cease fire. b. Make sure all actions are open with magazines removed. c. Verify among all shooters that the line is safe. d. Do Not pickup or handle a firearm while someone is down range or in front of you. e. Be aware of where your bullet impact will be and make sure it is in the appropriate backstop for that range. Berms 1. Berms 1 and 2 are multi-purpose use and firing is to the north backstop. 2. You can fire at plastic bottles etc. at berm 1 and 2. Do Not shoot glass, TV’s etc. Anything you bring in, haul it back out. 3. Berm 3 is for black powder shooting only. You can fire at plastic bottles, etc at Berm 3. Do Not shoot glass, TV’s etc. Anything you bring in, haul it back out. 4. Berm 4 is for action shooting only. Do not shoot at other than provided targets. Only one person at a time will be using this range on a first come first serve basis. 5. All general and outdoor range rules apply. Plinking Range 1. Shoot only from the rail area provided at the provided metal targets. 2. .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle ONLY at this range. Targets are damaged and ricochets happen with anything more powerful. 3. All general and outdoor range rules apply. Smallbore Rifle and Pistol Range 1. Use only approved stands to hold targets or use existing backers. Bottles, cans and other objects are specifically prohibited as targets. 2. All firing will be from the firing line on small-bore rifle or from pistol house. 3. All general and outdoor range rules apply. Silhouette Range 1. Handguns only on this range. Only exception is a lever action sponsored match. 2. Only small bore .22 is permitted to be shot on small targets. Anything else, up to .44 mag., may only be shot on large targets. No targets other than the provided metal ones are permitted. 3. Firing is to be done only from the firing line toward appropriate targets with a back stop. 4. All general and outdoor range rules apply. Benchrest House 1. No handgun firing from the house. 2. All rifles must have action open and magazines removed when not being fired. 3. When using a range area and before going down range all shooters must: a. Declare a Cease fire. b. Make sure all actions are open with magazines removed. c. Verify among all shooters that the line is safe. d. Do Not pickup or handle a firearm while someone is down range or in front of you. e. Be aware of where your bullet impact will be and make sure it is in the appropriate backstop for that range. 4. Before using the range and commencing shooting all shooters must: a. Verify that the range is safe b. Verify that no one is down range. c. Determine the proper target for the range d. Verify that bullet impact will be in the designated back stop. 5. Firing will only be done from designated benches or from matts east of the house consistent with the firing line. 6. A shooting position corresponds with a single numbered lane and a numbered target position. Firing will only be done on a single numbered lane at targets of the same number, not cross lanes. 7. Target holders shall only be placed at 50, 100 and 200 yard ranges. 8. Target holders will be of the standard version, 60 inches tall, 24 inches wide. The target will be placed in the upper 21 inches. At this elevation the bullets will impact the back stop area. All targets shall be paper. Bottles, cans and other objects are specifically prohibited as targets. 9. Target holders will be placed in the appropriate holder located at each distance and by numbered lane. 10. Close all windows when you are finished 11. All general and outdoor range rules apply. High Power Range 1. Check Pit area for anyone at the pit before using this range for anyone at the pit. 2. Range use is first come, first use. 3. Use STOP sign across road if shooting beyond the 400 yard line. If the STOP sign is up, do not go onto the range until the sign is taken down and the range is verified to be COLD or SAFE. 4. All shooting will be done on the target frames provided, which telescope up from the pit area. Follow additional rules posted in the pit. You can place your target on these. PLEASE patch all holes made. 5. First firing line is from the 200 yard berm, no closer. 6. If the road is blocked at 200 yard line, it is too muddy to drive from that point and you have to walk in. 7. Do not shoot if anyone is forward of you and the target. 8. All general and outdoor range rules apply.
